| Dan first became interested in Triumphs when an inexpensive Sunbeam Alpine drew his attention. Being somewhat mechanically inclined, he faced a challenge to see if he could restore this little car. The car was behind a car dealership under a large pine tree. Upon first inspection the engine compartment was totally consumed by cob webs. He wondered if the car even had an engine. The transmission was in the front seat and the drive shaft in the back seat. However, the trunk appeared to have lots of spare parts so he was hooked. With his father’s assistance towing it home he asked, “Son WHAT you going to do with that?”. He knew then that his work was going to be tough. He had no experience with British cars and only minor tools but had some mechanical ability from living on a farm (growing up working on tractors and such). He purchased a manual and some major tools and started in. When he purchased a different transmission, it finalized his decision to complete the restoration project. Two years later and several test drives through his soybean fields his project was complete. |
